Blue Steel and Its Less Attractive Side...
An Honest Testimony about Blue Steel...
At Alinco, we regularly receive requests to work with blue steel. While it is undoubtedly a beautiful material, there are some downsides to its use and maintenance. To inform our (future) customers, we would like to share the following testimony with our response:
Dear Karine,
While searching for information on how to paint our blue steel kitchen fronts (they have become very unsightly due to rust), I came across your website. I wish I had had this information before our kitchen designer persuaded us to install a blue steel kitchen! Anyway, we’re now left with the consequences. I was wondering if I could paint these fronts (treated with blue steel oil) with a special metal paint. I realize this may not be one of your activities, but your website made it clear that you are experts in blue steel. I hope you have a moment to advise me.
Kind regards,
This person immediately highlights a significant disadvantage of the material: rust.
Dear,
We always advise against this, as it’s unsuitable for kitchens. Architects sometimes find it beautiful, and in places where it’s used, like in upscale restaurants, it is treated daily. However, we are not painters and are unfamiliar with post-treatments, so we cannot assist you...
Kind regards,
Although blue steel has a beautiful appearance, it requires intensive maintenance to keep it that way.
