Watch out for external contamination

Even if the correct material has been chosen, external contamination can often cause it to “rust”. Classic examples are iron particles in the air that settle on the stainless steel. This can occur when stainless steel cladding is used next to a train track or if someone has been grinding iron in the vicinity of the stainless steel.
