Corrosion Tables Stainless Steel
Stainless steel is known for its anti-corrosive characteristics. But which is the better quality? In most cases this is quite obvious: 304 for indoor use and 316 for outside or in an agressive environment. Chlorine being enemy number 1 of stainless steel, especially 304, is a public secret. But what do we have to do with more specific chemicals? Which SS quality is more suitable for which type of chemical?
The corrosion charts of Outokumpu are rather complete. See enclosed link.
Using these tables is quite simple: green means ok, red colour says that there is tendency to severe corrosion. Orange indicates corrosion but can still be used under certain circumstances.
Material indications are a little confusing: Cr-Ni = 304 and Cr-Ni-Mo = 316.
