The advantages of pure copper are:

  • good conductor of heat and electricity

  • good resistance to corrosion

However, there are also disadvantages:

  • very soft (hardness 60–80 HB)

  • rapid oxidation

By combining copper with another metal, alloys with beneficial properties are created. Brass is an example of this (hardness 70–140 HB).

Alinco processes copper, but does not weld it.
