Mirror finish polishing
A mirror-like finish is achieved at Alinco through a combination of three techniques. We start as much as possible with pre-mirrored sheet and work only with the highest quality mirror sheets available on the market. We then process these sheets and, where necessary, further manually mirror polish with polishing pastes. Small pieces are often further polished in our mirror polishing tumblers.
Super Mirror Platen
Common Types of Mirror Stainless Steel Sheets:
- BA Sheet (Bright Annealed): This is a sheet with a mirror effect, but in our opinion, not sufficiently high quality. The sheet is not 100% mirror-like and may sometimes show dull spots. The sheets are cheaper than super mirror 8 but can yield disappointing results.
- Super Mirror 8: Alinco exclusively works with these sheets as they provide a qualitatively very good finish. Note: The term super mirror 8 is not standardized, so there are also differences in finish quality in the market. For extra protection, we usually use sheets with double protective film.
Tip:
We often process Super Mirror 8 sheet into safety mirrors suitable for the food industry, prisons, or other places where glass mirrors are not suitable.
Note:
Mirror stainless steel is not the same as chrome-plated steel. Chrome-plated steel is iron that has undergone a special treatment to achieve its shine.Further processing of mirror stainless steel
Further processing of mirror stainless steel (welding, grinding down weld seams) is specialized work, which we carry out successfully 😊
At Alinco, we achieve a mirror-like finish by first grinding the material to a grain size of 2000. We then use special pastes to create the desired mirror finish. This process can result in Ra values as low as 0.05 µm, producing an exceptionally smooth and shiny surface.
Note:
Bending mirror stainless steel causes the material to stretch at the bend, creating a dull zone. Unless explicitly stated in the quotation, this is not reworked.
